April is Autism Awareness Month, which was declared in 2002 and is an internationally recognized event, shown through the United Nations affirmation on its “commitment to promote the full participation of all people with autism, and ensure they have the necessary support to be able to exercise their rights and fundamental freedom.”
Early in the month, McDermott +Bull participated in a company lunch, where we all wore blue and educated the team on acceptance and inclusion. A few team members also participated in a golf tournament that helped raise funds for Unlimited Possibilities.
M+B Company Lunch
We had 6 new hires and a full house at our Orange County, CA headquarters. The team was able to discuss the importance of acceptance and education of the Autistic community.
Unlimited Possibilities Charity Golf Tournament
On April 4th Chris Bull, Chris Craig, Anne Terry, Sara Pizarro, and Jared Moriarty participated in the Unlimited Possibilities Golf Tournament. Newly rebranded as Unlimited Possibilities (UP), United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County (UCPOC) was founded in 1953 and established to assist people of all ages affected by cerebral palsy. They now serve children (ages 0 – 22 years) with a wide range of disabilities including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and other developmental delays by providing specialized care for more than 5,300 Orange County children and families each year. This year’s golf tournament had a goal to raise vital funding to ensure that their new facility in Santa Ana becomes the center of excellence for kids and families of UP.
Chris Bull’s introduction to Unlimited Possibilities (UCPOC) began in 2017 when his practice was selected to locate their next CEO. This led to an ongoing relationship with the organization, and he was subsequently approached to serve on their Board of Directors, which he has been doing since 2018.
M+B Remote Team
Our local and remote team, Nathanial Swokowski, Samantha Lee, Susan Reid, and Michelle Davis participated in wearing blue to support Autism Awareness Month.
