There’s just something about family. Even the best of friends don’t reach the same level, don’t go as deep.

  • The prized possession, loved for years but no longer practical to keep, but it just can’t be let go until it is a cousin that will have it. There’s just something about family.

  • The aging parents who struggle as they prepare to decide on their last big move, and the adult child who delays their own big choices to ensure the parents get the transition help they need. There’s just something about family.

Forgiveness can be a hard thing to share, but somehow, it seems so much more natural with family, so much easier, and because it is, forgiving family helps us learn how powerful forgiveness can be as a gift to ourselves.

A learning life is a life of progress. Our most reliable and believable teachers are our families. Like with forgiveness, embracing learning from family can help us learn better how to learn.

For those of us who are fortunate to have families where we make sacrifices, celebrate successes, forgive transgressions and learn to be better people, we all owe a debt of gratitude. Pay it forward!
