"It is not the color of baseball, decidedly not Dodger Blue. It is, in fact, a perfect rendering of his Otherness."

— Sandy Koufax: A Lefty’s Legacy by Jane Leavy (The author’s observations of the painting of Sandy Koufax by R. B. Kitaj)

Truly Setting Ourselves Apart

Otherness — isn’t that what we all seek? Being like everybody else is just boring, and it doesn’t set us apart.

Koufax was great as a pitcher, but he combined that skill with being courageous about his choices and by always breaking barriers. He was a complete “other” in his world. He was The Beatles of baseball.

I encourage each of us to emulate this combination of skill and courage and I wish you all greatness in your otherness.
