The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF), a leading organization in transatlantic cultural and educational exchange, has engaged McDermott + Bull to lead the search for its next President & Chief Executive Officer. This search will be led by Principal Milly Smith and Partner Sue Waterbury.
ASF is seeking an accomplished, globally minded leader to serve as its next President & Chief Executive Officer. This is a rare opportunity to lead a prestigious, century-old organization at the intersection of cultural diplomacy, international education, and transatlantic engagement. As ASF expands its reach and influence across sectors, audiences, and geographies, the President & CEO will serve as a visionary strategist, senior ambassador, and hands-on operational leader, strengthening the organization’s visibility, financial sustainability, and programmatic impact.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President & CEO will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for ASF. This leader will guide the organization through its next phase of growth, ensuring alignment between mission, programs, and resources while honoring ASF’s legacy and core values. As the public face of the Foundation, the President & CEO will represent ASF with credibility and presence across a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, cultural institutions, educational partners, and leaders in both the United States and the Nordic region. The role requires a dynamic fundraiser comfortable leading major gift relationships and advancing a diversified philanthropic strategy to support long-term sustainability.
