McDermott + Bull has successfully placed John Eagan as the General Counsel + Corporate Secretary for Washington Trust Bank. John will oversee the legal department responsible for leading the bank’s strategic and tactical legal initiatives and providing legal advice and counsel to bank management and the board of directors.
John joins Washington Trust Bank following 15 years serving as corporate counsel for $63 billion People’s United Bank. John was the lead in-house deal attorney on the transaction for People’s United Bank merger with M&T Bank, where the combined entity now totals more than $200 billion in assets. During his time with the company, he played a critical role in increasing the bank’s growth by a multiple of four. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and his joint J.D./MBA from Boston College.
