Does Your Work Matter?
Does what you do matter? I mean, does it matter to you? We really have to believe that what we are doing is valuable and that it creates something that is important to us, to our organization, to the world, or to all of them.
This is a key element of the “What Keeps You on Top” model. Doing work that matters allows us to feel purposeful.
I was recently reminded of the importance of this when I talked with two different leaders who we placed for client companies. One was appreciative because their family is much happier in this new environment. This leader didn’t anticipate how much the new, highly-purposeful company would also be healthier for them than their previous one. The other made a huge change in leaving a no longer fulfilling role at a big public company to join an inspiring closely-held family business, while simultaneously eliminating an awful commute.
It was so satisfying to hear how happy both of these people are with their change. Of course, I love helping our clients improve their organizations with great new leaders, but I have to admit that I love, even a little more, helping people find their ideal lives.
I encourage each of us to always be asking the question: Am I making the difference that I truly want to make? If the answer is not a resounding “yes”, then I wish you new enlightenment and new frontiers.
Thanks for sharing time with me; as always, I welcome your feedback. Please feel free to pass this message along to others who may find value.

Of course, please think of me if you (or companies you know) are adding strategic new talent to your leadership, either permanent or interim.
