“He opened the window, to savor (the outdoors), and the air tasted different from yesterday’s: milder, preparatory, stirred. Something had moved nearer.”
— From the National Book Award winning novel The Centaur by John Updike
DO WE HAVE LIFE OR DOES LIFE HAVE US?
Life needs to be approaching, not in the rear view mirror.
Life doesn’t care if we are lost or confused. It’s coming our way.
Letting things get the better of us, to keep us from moving forward, is not a problem for life. It keeps coming.
Convincing ourselves that fantasy is reality keeps us at arm’s length from the world. While hiding this way may seem “easier”, life doesn’t care. It’s still coming.
I want to encourage myself, and everyone else, to keep eyes up front and be aware. The life ahead just might be worth seeing.
