There are a lot of kinds of relationships. This one is the “biggest” one I’ve ever addressed – I’d say that a relationship among 300 million people might be considered pretty big…

A 242-year experiment, so far. This America thing was never guaranteed to work, but it has and it will. A recent visit to Washington DC has provided me with a special reminder

It’s pretty great, really – even if it’s flawed, partisan and often downright ugly, we really do have a very special system where each American is represented. Of course, the equality of that representation can be skewed, and while it takes a long time to fix such inequities, things do get better over time. I mean, come on, in no way can America escape the badness of some of the truly stupid things it had believed were right at the time – and there remain many of those things right now, regardless of your personal political persuasion.

However, if this “of the people, by the people” thing was going to fail, it would have – I don’t expect it to happen anytime soon (by the way, I’ll admit that I have said stuff recently that was so much more pessimistic than this – I am my best audience for this message).

When today’s truly annoying politics thing pops up in front of us, I really encourage us all to step back from the cliff’s edge and appreciate that we have both the right to be upset about it as well as the responsibility to try and change what we don’t like (if you really care, vote, or better yet, take part in local politics and/or community involvement to be part of the solution versus the problem).

And take a minute to think about the special system of Government that some wise people put together a long time ago and that, despite how hard we appear to try, we just can’t seem to destroy. Happy America to you all.

Thanks for sharing time with me; as always, I welcome your feedback.  Please feel free to pass this message along to others who may find value.
