IRVINE, California, February 1, 2016 – McDermott & Bull, a Southern California-based retained executive search firm, is pleased to announce the successful appointment of Edward Smith as Vice President of Flight Operations with McKesson Corporation. Mr. Smith will oversee the healthcare company’s corporate flight department. McKesson, based in San Francisco, is one of the largest companies in the nation, ranking 11th on the 2015 Fortune 500 list.

Mr. Smith’s career began at Sikorsky where he was a Field Representative. After a two year stint, he went to Notre Dame to get his MBA and then joined Intel in 1995. Working his way up from a Buyer to a Manufacturing Shift Manager at Intel’s Rio Rancho, New Mexico facility, Mr. Smith was then moved to Intel’s recent acquisition, Digital Equipment, as an Assistant Manufacturing Manager in Hudson, Massachusetts from 1999 – 2002. In 2002, Mr. Smith  jumped at the chance to become the Director of Aviation at Intel’s Folsom, California location where he assumed responsibility for a complex 5-site, 7 aircraft part 91 operation carrying 170K + passengers.  Mr. Smith excelled at this job, improving performance and efficiency on his manufacturing assignment. Then in 2009, Mr. Smith took advantage of an opportunity to lead a global effort to reduce Intel utility expenses, and once again succeeded in achieving significant results. In 2010, Mr. Smith assumed responsibly for Intel’s Folsom, California site ($45M budget) as a Campus Manager and in 2013, he also took back his job as the Director of Aviation, along with the responsibility for its $45M budget. The operation is now the largest corporate shuttle service in the world.

Prior to earning his MBA at Notre Dame, Mr. Smith received his Bachelor’s degree in Materials and Logistics Management (Operations and Procurement) at Michigan State University. Additionally, Mr. Smith is an instrument and commercially rated pilot but flies exclusively for pleasure.
