McDermott & Bull Executive Network hosted the Executive to Entrepreneur: Making a Successful Transition event on June 9th, 2009. This event is part of our McDermott & Bull Entrepreneurial Series. Mike Rubin shared his experience of leaving a career in the technology world and making the leap into business ownership. He was able to share with our attendees that starting your own business isn’t just about “making a detour” with the expectation of returning to the corporate world, but it’s really about making a decision for you and your career. Participants were able to ask specific questions related to their own entrepreneurial aspirations. The series will continue with the next event taking place on June 26th, 2009.
About the Speaker:
Mike Rubin is currently President of Rubin Management Group, a Laguna Niguel based business Management Company that operates local businesses and invests in new enterprises. Mike spent most of his career in large technology companies where he was able to combine his passion for technology products and services with his entrepreneurial spirit. Mike had a hand in creating new markets for Epson, was part of the Compaq team that created and launched the Presario product line, and was later named as General Manager of the Consumer Desktop PC division growing worldwide revenues to over $3 billion annually. While at Compaq, Mike helped lead Compaq’s transition into internet services and was part of the team that spun AltaVista off as a separate company. Additionally, his efforts included the creation of Shopping.com an e-commerce search engine division. He also spent time with Broadcom as an executive in charge of Business Development. Mike is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s Lloyd Greif Center of Entrepreneurial Studies and lives in Laguna Hills.
