McDermott + Bull has successfully placed Mary Marcuz as the Director of Marketing, Helder Silva as the Director of Physician Services, and Shahzad Dhanani as the Director of Business Development for Brown & Toland Physicians.

Initially, McDermott + Bull was engaged to place the Director of Physician Services. After a preliminary intake to better understand the client’s needs, it became clear that Brown & Toland’s executive leadership required a new layer of director-level management to allow for the growth they envisioned for the organization. Within a week’s time, the engagement expanded from the single search to include Director of Marketing and Director of Business Development to better support and meet the company’s overall goals.

MARY MARCUZ, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

As the Director of Marketing, Mary will play a vital role in effectively retaining, growing, and strengthening the Brown & Toland network of physicians, ancillary providers, and health system partnerships in the Bay Area. She will partner with the Vice President of Marketing, Communications + Community Outreach to support the external physician relations and business development teams. Mary will also create strategic marketing and communications to collaboratively and cooperatively achieve shared organizational goals associated with the health of the network.

Mary transitioned from Dignity Health, where she oversaw Bay Area marketing for all services, new provider launches, onboarding of physicians, and growth of individual practices. She possesses 10 years of experience in sales and marketing, including physician relationship management and contract negotiation, as well as client-facing marketing experience with a consultative approach. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in organizational leadership from Simpson University.

HELDER SILVA, DIRECTOR OF PHYSICIAN SERVICES

As the Director of Physician Services, Helder will identify and implement programs, services, and support in order to continuously provide a higher quality of service and improve practice performance and effectiveness. He will oversee the physicians’ participation within Brown & Toland from the point of entry throughout their tenure with the company, including assisting in succession planning, physician services, and benefit offerings. He will be responsible for cultivating successful partnerships between network physicians and the Brown & Toland Physician Services Organization (BTSPO) as well as ensuring added value through the affiliation.

Helder is a former U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman who most recently served as a Practice Manager at University HealthCare Alliance of Stanford Medicine, where he managed the day-to-day operations for the Family and Pediatric Medicine Clinics. With additional experience working at Scripps Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter Health, he has strong clinical exposure and an exceptional ability to interact with physicians and improve their operations. He received his Bachelor of Arts from National University and is working toward his Master of Public Health.

SHAHZAD DHANANI, DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Shahzad will lead and support the growth and pipeline of new practice model offerings in his role as Director of Business Development. He will lead new program development as well as implementation of new services and benefits for physician practices. He will also be responsible for implementing a career model for new physician services team members, developing existing team members, and identifying opportunities for increased connectivity and efficiencies between strategic services and the company’s operational division.

Prior to this role, Shahzad had a six-year tenure at Anthem, Inc., where he served as Manager of Network Relations, Director of Provider Network Management, and Director of Strategy and Program Development. He earned his Bachelor of Science in business management from The Georgia Institute of Technology and his Master of Science and MBA from Cornell University.

Brown & Toland Physicians opened in 1993 with a mission to make a difference in the health of the Bay Area. Today, they are a community of doctors and healthcare professionals who share a single vision: deliver the best care by making it possible for doctors and patients to make medical decisions together. Their mission is to serve their doctors and co-create services and programs that have a positive impact on independent practice— both for the patients and for the doctors that care for them.
